Kenia - Isiolo school project - PART 1

TUMAINI SENIOR PRIMARY SCHOOL opened on May 2nd 2007 with an intake of 34 at-risk students from the 9 communities served by Pepo La Tumaini, an organisation based in Isiolo, Northern Kenia, that is focused on people living with AIDS. Isiolo is one of the most marginalized and poorest areas in Kenia.

Tumaini Senior School is a primary school with boarding facilities for children who are at extreme risk. These children have either lost both of their parents to AIDS or have one very sick parent in the last stages of AIDS. Most have been abandoned by their communities. These children are now head of household and are aged from 12 to 16 years.

CAPE TOWN FILM STUDIOS ONLINE

Cape Town Film Studios is the largest and most ambitious film studio project ever to be undertaken on the African continent and will be a ten-year, multibillion Rand project. Construction has begun on the 200 hectare piece of land of Faure, between Cape Town Intl Airport and Stellenbosch.

Nico Dekker, currently the most succesfull studio manager in South Africa is

IPACC WORKSHOP HOUTBAY

Indigenous delegates from Congo, Gabon, Burundi, Uganda, Namibia and Kenia have arrived in Cape Town for an intense advocacy 'train the trainers' course on REDD. The course is organised by IPACC.

REDD, wich stands for Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation, is a North-South funding mechanism designed to provide investment in tropical forests as a way of storing carbon dioxide and reducing Green House Gases wich cause global warming.

FIRES IN CAPE TOWN"

Gisteren kwamen de vlammen tot aan de voordeur van de wine estate 'Vergelegen', in de buurt van Stellenbosch. De wijnmakers kwamen er met de schrik van af.

Vandaag was het de beurt aan de Citybowl van Kaapstad. Een enorme rookpluim ontwikkelde zich op de flank van de tafelberg, in 'Deer Park', een stukje natuur tussen de wijken Vredehoek en Oranjezicht. Helicopters vlogen af en aan met grote waterzakken om de brand te blussen. Voor zover bekend bleef alles onder controle. 

De jongste dagen is het erg warm in de Kaap. Overdag zakt de temperatuur niet onder 30°C.
