Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Vanackere op bezoek in Zuid-Afrika
Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Steven Vanackere heeft net een zesdaagse reis naar Zuid-Afrika achter de rug.
Hij had er ondermeer een ontmoeting met zijn Zuid-Afrikaanse ambtsgenoot, praatte met mensen uit de academische wereld en het lokale bedrijfsleven.
Op de laatste dag van zijn reis bracht hij een bezoek aan Electrawinds, een West-Vlaams bedrijf dat in Zuid-Afrika werkt aan de productie van groene energie.

SAMBURULAND
Samburu Warriors
The Northern part of Kenya is one of the poorest and most marginalized parts of Kenya.
This is where the Samburu tribe lives. An ancient people with strong culture and traditions. They are nomadic pastoralists who live in traditional manyattas in houses made of sticks that are easy to move in the constant search for water and pasture for their animals. Their cows, goats and camels provide milk, blood and meat that are their only source of food.
The land is semi arid and is subject to frequent droughts. The droughts are escalating in frequency and intensity. In the last drought they lost 80% of their cows and 60% of their goats.
On August 8th 2010 the community of Samburu in Sereolipi village held a traditional blessing ceremony. They wanted to bless the office for the scholarship program and a new car. And they wanted to bless JWT as a sponsor of thir scholarship students and also the generous individuals who have joined JWT’s initiative. and all the sponsors of the scholarship students.

BRUTUS, De leeuw van Vlaanderen
Een leeuw van Vlaanderen naar Zuid-Afrika, het lijkt wel de omgekeerde wereld.
In maart van dit jaar werd de leeuw Brutus vanuit het natuurhulpcentrum in Opglabbeek
naar Zuid-Afrika overgevlogen met de steun van de Brigitte Bardot Stichting.
De reis kostte maar liefst 8000 euro. 'Brutus' kon een jaartje op adem komen in Opglabbeek
nadat hij gered werd uit een Frans Circus waar hij vreselijk mishandeld werd.
Intussen heeft 'Brutus' in Zuid-Afrika een nieuwe thuis gevonden in het
'Drakenstein Lion Park' in Paarl, op een half uurtje van Kaapstad.
In het Leeuwenpark kun je ook overnachten in een 'Tented Camp' tussen de grote katten!
